Melbourne Cup Carnival & Cruise Night - November 2016

We’ve been hosting this event for few years now but the votes are in that this was our best ever. With the new Sober Mule being up and running we moved our Cup carnival back there. Warren and his crew did a great job with lots of finger food on arrival, a nice main meal, some complimentary beverages and a choice of desserts. Being Cup day, a flutter is required so three sweeps meant everyone could get a runner in the Cup. At 2pm, Geoff & Simon entertained us with the auction of the horses in our Cup Calcutta. After some spirited bidding, the total pool again exceeded $1000. Fashions on the Field followed with prizes for best dressed couple, man, lady and family. Somehow, winners were selected and prizes were passed around as there were some very smartly dressed people. Nick won the $100 in the Cruiser draw then it was time for the running of the Cup. Warren, owner of the Sober Mule cleaned up pocketing over $600 from the Calcutta. He probably doesn’t want his wife to know about this so mum’s the word! Lots of other happy winners in the Cup sweeps and Calcutta as the cash was distributed. Our treasurer Shelley was kept very busy all day.

With the Cup Carnival winding down, it was time to fire up the Dirty Stop Outs who had set up to entertain us out on the verandah. Even a brief shower didn’t deter too many from cruisin in and we ended up with owners of 150 + cars being entertained by the band.

Cruise night presentations soon rolled around at 7pm and we found another Cruiser to take home a $100 from the Cruiser draw and then 3 entrants’ goody bags.

Put this in your diaries for next year as we reckon the tickets will sell out pretty quickly after they go on sale.
