Peninsula Cruise Night - December 2019
Seriously, who’d really want to go and stand around outside for 2 to 3 hours in last Tuesday night’s bitterly cold wind? Well we all did and we were joined by quite a few 100’s more because Santa was coming. And with a Santa visit there’s also lots of kids. Joy the Balloonist and Louise the face painter were soon entertaining the crowd with some amazing designs while waiting for the guy in the red suit to cruise in. With the unfavorable weather forecast it was predictable that entrants in pre ’75 cars would be down, but Santa Cruz is as much about catching up with friends as anything else. Still, with around 150 cars cruisin in there were still plenty to check out in the car park.
Santa Cruz is also hosted as a charity fund raiser with all the night’s raffle proceeds being shared between the Mirabel Foundation and Ovarian Cancer Australia.
The ringing of a bell signalled Santa’s arrival in the big pink Caddy and after a lap around the car park he was ushered to his seat with excited kids lined up to see him and share what they’d like for Christmas. After sharing the Christmas spirit with all present, Santa’s departure is nearly as big as his arrival. Thanks again Santa for coming to visit us.
Raffle draw time. With $500 in cash [donated by Garage 12 in Dromana] as part of 1st prize ticket sales had been good in spite of a smaller crowd than in past years. With runner up prizes of 5 hampers combined with a pick from the prize table, that included a solid silver key ring custom made by Roger Thomas, along with Mercedes Benz slot car sets, there were even more good reasons to buy tickets.
First up was the night’s Cruiser $100 draw which was pocketed quickly.
The raffle draw found a winner with every ticket pulled so seems no one left early.
Graeme Hutson accepted a cheque for $1000 in memory of Cheryl who passed away recently after a long battle with Ovarian Cancer. Total proceeds from the charity raffle raised $1550. The LGC team have since decided to make up the donation to Mirabel to $1000.
We’d like to thank the many supporters that make Santa Cruz a special night.
