Melbourne Cup Carnival & Cruise Night - November 2011
The 1st Tuesday in November is not only our November Cruise Night but also Melbourne Cup Day. So even though we’re all interested in horsepower of a different kind, it’s an excuse to get together and have some fun on a public holiday. The Sober Mule café had a ‘race day special’ lunch with bubbles to start things up. Around 2pm things really kicked into gear. Horses in the Cup sweeps were quickly snapped up. Then it was time for the serious money with the Cup Calcutta. After auctioning off all 23 starters, the prize pool totalled $1200. Ten minutes later winners were grinners, with Jan from Dromana taking home the $750 first prize. Then it was straight into the ‘Fashions on the Field’ LGC style. Best dressed winners were soon holding armfuls of prizes including the mandatory bottle of Champers! We held an extra Cruiser draw for all the LGC Cruisers present at our Cup Carnival and Meg, Cruiser # 666 picked up a bar stool. The growing crowd that continued to cruise in, were then entertained by local singer Sarah Gardner. The car park now had over 100 cars and they kept coming until somewhere in excess of 200 cars cruised in. Not too bad a roll up given the changeable weather we’ve all been enduring of late around Melbourne.
Just before 7pm, it was time to draw the night’s winners in the entrants draw. First presentation was to Grant from Frankston, tonight’s Best Presented winner. Grant’s ‘Safety Yellow’ ’32 Ford Coupe street rod was a great example of a well prepared car. Grant went home with around $200 of car care products to help keep his Coupe in prime condition.
Then we pulled another LGC Cruisers name out of the box and it’s amazing how quickly a $100 bill puts a smile on a face! Then it was finally time to send home three lucky entrants with ACDelco car care packs. We also had some kid’s goody bags as part of these prizes. More smiles. With the weather chilling off, another cruise night was wrapped up. Hopefully we’ll enjoy some better weather at next month’s Santa Cruz and we’ll see the 600 plus car park completely filled.
Can’t wait!
