Wheels on the Waterfront Supported by Wellington City Council.
Odlins Plaza, access from the lower end of Taranaki Street, which
is off Cable Street in Wellington (at the first set of traffic lights
past the Old St John's Building, get into the left lane, and turn
left). There are two cruises for entrants travelling to the venue:
1 - Departing 9.15 am from Settlers Museum, Petone Foreshore 2 - Departing
9.00am from Spotlight Carpark, Porirua Or just turn up at the venue
at 9.45am. Your vehicle will be required to be parked up between 10am
and 4.00pm. There's lots for you to see and do in the vicinity - Te
Papa, bars, cafes, markets, paddle boats, rock climbing, Frank Kitts

At 4.00pm we will depart the venue with a cruise through Wellington,
and then out to our Clubrooms (Onepoto Road, Titahi Bay) for "Beer

This is a laid-back, open-plan, outdoor vehicle display. Your vehicle
will not be roped off, but we will have a large and visible security
presence on site throughout the day. We would like to make this an
annual event, so PLEASE NO SKIDS when entering, while in, or when
leaving the venue - PLEASE - PLEASE - PLEASE!!! On the Sunday we have
a cruise departing from the Weigh Station at Plimmerton (on State

new and exciting news for this year. Yes you read it right, a new
major sponsor has come on board. Rare Spares has been with us since
the second year, that’s 16 years as the major sponsor and they’ll

Car Fun Run. Choose from one of 6 runs to Matua Valley Winery,

will be a maximum of 40 cars per run and places will be allocated
on a first-come-first-served basis. They will attempt to satisfy your
second choice of run, if your first choice is full. All entrants should
be lined up in the formation area at the Ellerslie Racecourse area
by 9:20am at the latest. All runs depart from Ellerslie Racecourse
about 10am. It is recommended that you bring a picnic lunch. However

There will be a mini run on Wednesday afternoon the 20th more than
likely a sanctioned event to assist those with guard exemptions. The
number of entries that will be accepted is increased to 750! Those
who supported Americarna this year will receive their registration
forms in the next few weeks and be given a month to get them in before
we open up to new attendees. We are working on more innovative ways
to improve Americarna for 2008. Bob Anderson, a long time hot rodder
and classic car enthusiast has been appointed by Taranaki Chamber
of Commerce as Event Co-ordinator with one of the roles being to work

Hosted by Americar Rod & Custom Club Inc. The 2008 Street Rod Nationals
theme is Back to the 80’s to relive the era of the great Southern
Nationals held in Ashburton in 1981, 1983 and 1985. On Sunday 23 March
we will be cruising from Methven to Ashburton (approximate 30 minute
drive) for our Show ‘n’ Shine day. This is being held at the Ashburton
Racecourse from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm and is our Gala Day to show our
hot rods and street machines to the public of Canterbury and in fact
the whole South Island. We will have bands playing throughout the
day as well as other entertainment, food stalls and trade sites for
our wonderful sponsors and other associated vendors. For the entrants
there will be bus tours provided to showcase some of the features
of our area as well as some of the well known watering holes. This
will be followed by dinner, a great social evening with prize giving
and supper and another band back at the famous Blue Pub in Methven.
Prices for accommodation vary, but motel units are available from
$80.00 per night for two people and bed/breakfast from $27.00 per
person per night at Barkers Lodge. As Methven has 3500 beds available,
there is no shortage of accommodation to suit all budgets and tastes.

Hot Rod Blowout.
Hosted by the Scroungers. This year’s Hot Rod Blowout is to be held
at the Rosebank Go-Cart and Speedway track on Rosebank road off the
North Western Motorway. The NEW location enables the Scroungers to
expand the event. They open their invite out to old hot rods, drag
cars, motorcycles, speedway cars etc. This is a static display, however
their will be up to three bands playing. Facilities include a bar
and food stand and toilets etc. This is the 10 year anniversary of
the Scroungers and its shaping up to be the best yet with ex pat member,
Kevin Perry attending from California along with Aaron Von Minden

Mopar Nationals - Drag Racing, Car Show and Trade Display. Wheels
Inc Hot Rod Club are targeting all Chrysler and Mopar enthusiasts
and promoting a new event for entrants and the general public. Their
vision is to create a colourful and vibrant fun and family atmosphere
and to do that they’re inviting all makes, models and year of manufacture
vehicles that are part of the CHRSYLER and MOPAR group. Models including
all new and early models classics (i.e. Hillman, Jenson, Humber, Desoto,
Plymouth, Dodge, Jeep, hemi or Chrysler powered hot rods and competition
vehicles and any vehicles that are Chrysler bodied or powered etc.
The date is Saturday 26th April 2008 at Fram Autolite Dragway, Meremere
and will feature: Drag Racing, car display and car club display, trade
display lane, car club parades down the drag strip and event T-shirts.
If you’re a Chrysler or Mopar guy who would enjoy a great day and
a bit of an unusual gathering of people from across the board of classic,

Hop: Ultimate Passes Sold Out 21 November! Yes folks, Ultimate
Pass sales exceeded our expectations and completely sold out on Nov
21. This is a great start for us and we thank those who got in early.
Standard Passes are also coming in at a great rate to keep us very
busy. We’ll keep our website updated with entry numbers so you can
keep a track of how things are going. There are some fantastic new
hot rods and recently imported classic cars due to debut at the Festival
– we’ve seen some great photos. So make sure you send us a photo of
your vehicle when you enter – we might even use it in our Festival
programme! Early Entrant Prize Draws. Pioneer Auto Parts have really
stepped up to the plate with the rebuilt Chevy V8 engine we are giving
away. They’re supplying a new 600 Holley carb, Weiand inlet manifold,
engine dress up kit and K&N Filter. The motor has a bit of history
– remember the green metalflake 27T Hot Rod Challenge Roadster? Dave
Green of Specialty Cars (www.chevyparts.co.nz) said we could keep
the motor which was on loan. Colin Willoughby at Comtech is now putting
it together using parts supplied by ACL (www.acl.co.nz). To win the
engine then you must register your vehicle for the Famous Pacific
Shipping Beach Hop 2008 before March 1st 2008 – visit our website
to enter online. If you enter before December 1st we’ll also put you
in the draw to win a copy of the “Red Shift” Series 1 DVD. Makita
Give Away Car Update We had a little bit of a setback this week. Whangamata
is currently having a large number of roads resealed and yep, you
guessed it, yesterday the Pontiac got a cracked windscreen as a result.
Thanks to Classic Cover Insurance this was quickly repaired and we’re
off to the Cambridge Classic Car Show this Sunday. Make sure you swing
by and check the car out as this is the last time it’ll be seen in
this form. This week we paid a visit to Brendon Tordoff at DTM Wheels
in Hamilton who are supplying Billet Specialties wheels for the project.
Next week Kieran Adams at Valley Panel Beaters in Thames is going
to remove 1 small (5mm) bubble of rust and 1 small ding (10 cent size).
The car will have all exterior trim removed and next Friday we’re
taking it to Steve Levine at Imagin-Airing who is going to lay on
the luscious House of Kolor Candy paint. Watch this space for updates!
