GoodGuys Scottsdale
Hi everyone back home, Goodguys held their spring Rod Run at Scottsdale (Phoenix AZ) this year, same venue and formulae this year as last November, plus autocarna laps this year. You should have received the photos I took at a couple of wreckers the days before; the vintage tin that follows were taken at the swap meet. As expected lots of the same AZ cars as last November but a few newies, hope none you have seen before.
Its a shame we are having trouble importing US hot rods, there were some good buys to be had, like two or three 37 to 40 coupes and tudors around $40,000, also see a photo of a nice beige 36 tudor that was ready to sell under $40,000 as well. A few glass 32 roadsters could have been yours in the mid 20's.
The run kicks off on Thursday with a tour of half a dozen local rod and speed shops. So we all did a big tour around Phoenix and I soon learnt not to follow the locals as they still got lost and I ended up using the satnav to find which shop was next. With 2 million people Phoenix is not a small city. We saw Hughes Auto transmissions who have a really big set up and a couple of photos from Drews Garage are included, nice looking finished cars but they did ply the filler ala Boyd.
The organisers of Goodguys are getting to know me pretty well by now, they have seen the Chevy all over USA and my reward this time was the trophy for "Gotta Drive Em to Get There" category. Another wall plaque which is nice but the cream on the cake was a voucher for a set of four Goodyear tyres of my choice, that has to be worth almost $1000 in Aussie terms so I was wrapped as you can imagine. Just have to decide what sizes I need for the 37 Cabriolet back home and get them delivered to Al Montana with the rest of my goodies.
Seeing how I won some good stuff back home whilst I was away I reckon I've used up most my luck this year. Hopefully a bit left to keep me out of trouble until I get home late April, says he touching wood as he types this.
So everything finished up around 3.00 and I've just driven around 1/2 way back to LA, got a Holiday Inn near the AZ/CA border and will be back to pickup the RV and get towards Bakersfield for Nostalgia Drags next weekend. Should have some good photos then too.
