Peter Koning in USA

Peter is a long time hot rodder and supporter of Let's Go Cruisin. He's left his business, Hoppers Stoppers in the capable hands of his staff to travel the US for 12 months. Sure makes some interesting reading!

Arizona Vintage Tin

If there is one thing about Arizona, its usually hot and dry. Still plenty of 40's and 50's cars to be had but of course the better 30's hot rod fodder is long gone.

On Tuesday I drove out of Las Vegas for the 6 hour trip down to Scottsdale. this goes via Hoover Dam and Boulder, over the hills and across the dry north of AZ.
About half way between Boulder and Kingman I spy an old wrecking yard right beside the highway, looks like its been closed for a couple of years but looking throught the fence there was plenty to whet my appetite. Of the photos that follow these are the first sixteen.

I was also told of another wrecking year about 60 miles south of Phoenix, so this morning a quick drive towards Tuson, Called Desert Valley Auto Parts, these guys have been there for decades and now specialize in selling whats left of maybe 100 acres of 30's to 70's cars. They actively sell on the internet and welcome car collectors to visit and rummage through the yard. I spent a few hours just walking around and taking photos, if you need anything to fix your old american classic these guys will probably have it but they know what things are worth. Sometimes they find and sell complete restoration projects but 99% of the stuff in the yard is well picked over, particularly the 30's stuff. Plenty of 50's parts, see the photo of the hundreds of 55/57 Chevy doors all in one plie, dont let anyone tell you these are ever going to be rare.
