12th Cruise to VHRR Phillip Island Classic 2017
The Phillip Island Classic is an event we all look forward to each year. The promise of great cars with international race pedigrees not only on display but out on the track showing they still have the horsepower to be fast today gets our juices flowing. This year the event moved a week on the calendar [as it’s always scheduled one week prior to the Australian F1 GP] away from the Labour Day holiday weekend. This must have suited more people as our entrants started registering earlier than in the past and we soon had a full house and unfortunately had to stop accepting new entrants for our cruise a week prior to the weekend.
The weather turned out be just about perfect the whole weekend which always makes for a better day out. With over 60 pre registered entrants to process in Tooradin our crew was kept busy getting ready for an on time start at 8:45am. But we did manage to start our cruise on time on it must have looked pretty cool as it wound its way down to the GP Circuit on the Island. The rest of the LGC crew had left earlier to set up out tents and get ready to park cars into our trackside reserved area. The action on the track was in full noise and the pit area and displays were filled with rare and exotic cars of all eras and types. Muscle cars are not just popular with car enthusiasts. The grid for the start of the touring cars contained lots of Camaros, Mustangs, GT Falcons, XU1 & L34 Toranas.
However you like your motorsport, open wheel ex F1 cars, F5000’s, pre war racing & sports cars, even more recent Group A touring cars, there’s something for every enthusiast. Even all the wives & partners that came along sat back and enjoyed the day.
Our thanks to the VHRR for allowing us to participate in Australia’s premier historic motoring event. Here’s a few photos from Cal to remind us to register early for next year’s event.
