For 2008 we have been lucky to secure exclusive use of Como Gardens for the day. This is a privately owned property with extensive formal and bush gardens, a miniature railway that the kids can ride and an amazing collection of vintage, veteran performance vehicles. There is ample secure parking on the property and plenty of great spots for a classic picnic lunch.
You will need to bring all your own food, drinks, tables, chairs, cooking equipment etc as there is no catering on-site. It might be a good idea to pack some sun screen and fly repelant too.
We will be running 2 cruises to this location. One starting from the Hallam Hotel at 10:00am and the other starting from Lilydale Lake at 10:00am. This should stagger the arrival of the cars just nicely. See cruise route below. If you get lost or just want to go straight to the venue, the address is Como Gardens, 79 Basin Olinda Road, The Basin (Melways 65 H7).
There are no other activities organised, rather this is an informal, laid back cruise to enjoy a day with your family, your car and your friends at a special location.
The owners of Como Gardens charge a nominal entry fee of $10.00 per Adult, the proceeds of which go to local charities and the maintance of the property.
GREAT NEWS!!
Cruise to the Vic. State Hot Rod Show
With the generous support of the Victorian Hot Rod Association, we are able to invite entrants attending our Australia Day Picnic Cruise, to later in the day, cruise with us to the Vic State Hot Rod Show.
At the winding up at Como Gardens, expected around 3:00pm, we will lead a cruise to the Hot Rod Show at the Exhibition Buildings. The VHRA have provided reserved parking for up to 40 cars only. The reserved parking is additional to the 'out the front' parking area previously used. Access to this reserved area is "free" to entrants attending the Australia Day Picnic who register for this additional cruise on the day. However, it is conditional on at least one show entry ticket being purchased for each car in the cruise. This can be done when registering for the cruise while at the Picnic. We will have show entry tickets for sale so there'll be no lining up on arrival. There is a limit to the number of cars that can be accommodated, so register at the LGC tent early to secure your place. Final details will be available on the day.
Now there's another good reason the Picnic with us at Como Gardens on Saturday January 26th. How many more sleeps? |
