Lakes Entrance Country Cruise 2008
We arrived at the Pakenham McDonalds at 9:30 to see several cars already there, ready to cruise at 10:00. We set off with 12 cars and 4 caravans in tow. Cruised under sunny skies to Sale for fuel and food at lunch time. Only a couple of minor hiccups along the way. When leaving Sale, we found out Nobbies' '57 Chev had fuel problems and local rodder Colin Miles was happy to help. A new fuel pump valve and we were on our way again. Saw quite a few other rods on the road - a promising sign for a big weekend. We arrived in Lakes around 2:30 and all set up camp for the weekend.
Friday night was BBQ time at Bob and Nola Dykes' place, with all food supplied by the Thunderbirds Rod and Custom Club, which always goes down well. Plenty of bench session bulldust and enough tucker to feed an army - just the way us rodders like it!
Saturday morning was registration at the Rotunda and a show and shine on the main drag. Saw a few drops of rain but nothing a chamois couldn't fix!
The Saturday night Pie Night which was held at the local golf club was a good night for all. Raising money for the Life Saving Club, with pies coming out of our ears - all donated by Patties. The entertainment went all night, giving everyone a laugh or two.
Sunday offered a police-escorted cruise into Paynesville, parking on the foreshore and beautiful weather to top off a great day.
Sunday night saw the golf club complex in town filled with rodders for dinner.
A Monday morning farewell cruise, put on by Thunderbirds, sent us home through Maffra and unfortunately through the rain as well but all in all a great weekend.
The Lakes Entrance Country Cruise is held bi-annually. Be sure of another fantastic weekend in 2010!
